Old men, new ideas

Old Men, New Ideas

Some rumors just won’t die. For example, the one that says old men eventually spend all their time talking about the good old days, drinking beer, sitting on the couch, and watching trash TV while they spend the rest of their sparetime explaining why everything was better back then.

All we can say is: That’s only partly true for us. We do like to talk about the old days and have a beer together now and then, but otherwise, we’re still creative.

Yesterday, W.O.T.W., Anybody, Madison, and Astaroth got together to discuss the upcoming changes to the TRSI website. And even though there was, of course, plenty of laughter and digressions, the core of the meeting was quite serious: The website is to be further developed with new ideas, clearer structures, and a focus on how TRSI wants to present itself today.

Because yes, we’re still here and we’re here to stay. And we’ll be more active again, in many ways… that’s a promise.

The focus was on the upcoming changes to the TRSI website. Anybody had worked out a draft. We discussed ideas, gathered design requests, and sorted out priorities. As is often the case in creative sessions: some suggestions made sense right away, while others had to survive the fact that four people had differing opinions on them at the same time.

Nevertheless, it quickly became clear where we wanted to go. The site should become more functional, but still retain the TRSI look. It should showcase our history without feeling like a museum. And it should provide space for what’s happening now, rather than just highlighting what once was.
One point that was particularly important to us and one that has been brought up several times, including by those who visited our website, is that the readability of the font will be significantly improved. Yes, really! No more strain on your eyes and monitors. In the near future, you don’t have to printing out the text just to be able to read it.
We’ve got it: The font will be more readable.

Beyond all the technical and design aspects, the evening was also a wonderful sign that this kind of work at TRSI isn’t simply seen as a chore. It wasn’t just about changing a few colors or checking off layout items. It was also about thinking together about how to meaningfully bring the group, its history, and its current activities together.

And perhaps that is precisely where the true value of such meetings lies. We sit down together, laugh at old stories, discuss new designs, discard ideas, come up with better ones, and eventually realize: That old drive of ours hasn’t completely disappeared. It may look a little more structured today. Sometimes it even comes with notes. But it’s still there.

Maybe we’re getting old, and maybe some decisions take a little longer these days. Maybe we no longer put every idea into action at four a.m. in the morning just because someone happens to still be awake… although, come to think of it, that part hasn’t changed.

And as long as we at TRSI are still discussing pixels, layouts, texts, releases, and other important trivialities, one thing is clear: We’re not just history, we’re also shaping the future.

Some of us may be sleeping, but a main part of us is awake. And right now, there are no signs that this part is getting tired.
By the way, you can also see who’s sleeping and who’s awake on our homepage. ;)

So stay tuned, there’s still a lot more to come from us. Feel free to stop by every now and then: https://trsi.org

When Old Friends Sit Down Together Again

An evening in Berlin, old friends gathered around the same table, and conversations that picked up seamlessly right where they’d left off years ago. Madison and Astaroth met up with Mike and Ayatollah for a reunion that was, above all, wonderful.
